Dear Elsternwick Club Members,
We are now in the middle of a second lockdown. Unfortunately, at this stage, the number of infections is not lowering, and it is unknown if this second lockdown will be widened to cover all of Victoria, or increased in length to halt the spread. Masks are now the new fashion accessory.
Because of tightened restrictions, The Bowls Committee has had to defer our Opening of the Green until present restrictions are eased.
In spite of this, after 15th August, members will finally be able to have a roll-up on our new green. Attendance at this will involve many rules and regulations. Complete itemized details will be emailed closer to this date. However, it will be at an allocated time and date, and numbers will be restricted to a maximum of 10 members (at this time). We are allowed only two bowlers per rink, the club rooms will not be available for use, and an attendance record, mandated by the Government, needs to be kept by the Club. You will need to ring and book the evening before, and no walk-ins on the day will be allowed. Mats and jacks will need to be sprayed with disinfectant after use. Masks will be compulsory and social distancing regulations must be adhered to.
The Green is looking magnificent, thanks to the efforts of Brett, “Cutter,” our greenkeeper.
Over the school holidays, Brett, his son Jude, and Stephen our General Manager removed all the weeds, etc from the gutters. A skip was hired to dispose of the rubbish.
Social Bowls — once restrictions are eased
These events will now not be able to be commenced until restrictions are eased.
When allowed, social bowls will be held every Wednesday and Friday afternoon with green fees of $10 pp. These days will offer an opportunity for all TEC members to support our Club.
If restrictions allow, friends and members of other clubs will be encouraged to attend. If strict restrictions are still in place then numbers may need to be limited. Once again, if required, a registration list would be established. The Victorian Government has mandated that these lists will need to be kept by the Club as a record of attendance until the current crisis is under control.
Membership reminders have been emailed or posted to all members. Fees for next season will remain at the same level as the current season. As per our Constitution, this will need to be ratified at our Annual General Meeting. These fees may now be made at the Club via credit card. Paying immediately will assist the Club with its diminished cash flow. Fees must be paid by September, as capitation fees need to be paid to Bowls Victoria.
The Bowls Committee are delighted to announce that the sale of all scoreboards has been finalized. The boards have arrived and at present are at the printers, having the personalized signs attached.
We cannot express how delighted we are with the response of our members to this initiative. We owe a debt of gratitude to those who donated a scoreboard. By your donation you have displayed your dedication to our Club and have set an example of true support and commitment.
Even with isolation, footy tipping continues at TEC. Glen is uploading the current list on the Club Website each week so that members are aware of how they are doing. Don’t forget to let the Club know your weekly selection by email or phone, before 5:00pm each Thursday. This deadline will need to be altered because of the AFL’s new game structure, but I’m sure Glen will let us know if the deadline changes.
Our “phone a member” initiative continues to be a success, has been well received by members, and has kept us up to date with what other members are doing while in isolation – generally only cooking, eating and watching television. Please keep this communication going as this isolation may last longer then we hope. Peter and I have appreciated the calls we have received and have enjoyed catching up with everyone’s news.
Annual General Meeting
At this stage no date has been allocated for this meeting. However, the Annual Report has been completed and printed, and an electronic copy has been sent to members today. A hard copy will be available soon to all members without an email address.
You will have received, from Lucy Boorn, a copy of this project. It aims to research the effect on participants of statins on the heart, diabetes and dementia. A member has informed me that he has been in this program for a few years and is very satisfied with the follow-up appointments. Please support this program if you are interested
We continue to pray that all members and their families stay well. It is in times like this, when we see so much sickness around us, that we appreciate our own good health.
We are all missing the opportunity to visit family and friends.
We are missing our regular bowls games, our catch-ups over a drink at the Club, and just the opportunity to live life free of restrictions and restraints. May this crisis soon be over.
