Bowls Newsletter November 2020

25 Nov, 2020, 8:53 PM

Dear Elsternwick Club Members,

All members are delighted with our new green, and the comments from visitors have also been positive.

Our 2020 – 2021 season commences tomorrow with the first game for our 7 a-side team.

This new initiate from BV has been taken up by many clubs. The format is two teams of pairs and one team of triples. We wish our players well for their first game.

Following directions from BV, there will be no provisions for self-serve food or drinks at pennant games.

Players must provide their own drinks and snacks, or these can be purchased at our bar.

BV suggest that all teams play through, with each rink stopping, at a different time, for a ten minute break. Drink fountains may be turned on, but it is not recommended.

COVID 19 Rules

Bowlers are reminded to register their visit, using QR code or manual sign in

Sanitize mats and jacks

Do not share any equipment, food or drink

Give a fist pump or an elbow jab – please do not shake hands

Masks no longer need to be worn outside, but must be worn inside except when eating or drinking

Social distancing is still required

Our current venue permit allows for 40 indoors (this includes gaming areas) and 70 outdoors.

Opening of Green

Presentation of 2019 – 2020 trophies

Celebration of delayed commencement of 2020 – 2021 season

We finally are allowed the numbers, 70 outside, to have our delayed official “Opening of the Green” ceremony, followed by “Presentation of 2019 – 2020 Trophies.”

This is scheduled for this Saturday afternoon, after the first round of Saturday Pennant games.

  • The opening of the green will commence as soon as all teams are back.

This will incorporate the traditional rolling of the jack by the men’s champion,  followed by the rolling of our wooden bowl by our ladies’ champion. This will, belatedly, open our new green.

  • After this we will present our 2019 – 2020 trophies
  • Official unveiling of our new scoreboards – words of appreciation to donors
  • We will then incorporate a COVID safe BBQ into this format, which will commence around 5:00pm. Our popular gourmet sausages, including condiments, will be on sale for just $2 per serve.

We hope for a great turnout of members to celebrate our return to our “home ground.”  This is our first official function since our virtual AGM, so it will be a great opportunity to catch up with our bowling team mates.

Club Championships

Due to of our shortened season, we are again only conducting the five main championships

  • Ladies’ Championship
  • Men’s Championship
  • Ladies’ Pairs
  • Men’s pairs
  • Mixed Pairs

The lists for these prestigious events will be in the locker rooms by this weekend. Please place your names on the lists before the closing dates, so that games may get under way ASAP.

Our well respected Committee member, Greg Wood, has been in hospital for heart surgery. After doing rehabilitation, Greg is now on the mend and we hope to soon welcome him back to the Club, and see him out on the green again.
