October Newsletter, 2020
Dear Elsternwick Club Members,
Well, we are finally on our new green and the consensus is that it is fantastic — 10/10 !!
We have been running roll-up practice sessions since last week and they have proved to be very popular with many sessions booked out !! Below are a couple of our happy bowlers.
Now for the extra special news !!!

As from tomorrow, Stephen, our General manager, will have staff rostered on so that our Club can be open from 11am to 5pm every Tuesday to Sunday (except for Cup Day.) This arrangement will continue until Sunday evening the 8th November.
This arrangement is specifically for our bowlers so that we can get together and chat both during, between and after our rollups. We have heard so many comments that members can’t wait to get back to the Club, so here is your opportunity to show that you really meant it !

Social bowls for TEC members will commence next week. These games are a great opportunity to meet and mix with your fellow members whilst honing your bowling skills.
These sessions will be held every Wednesday afternoon with registration by 12:00. The Wednesday co-ordinators are Max Flanigan and Jack Hamilton and we thank them for their organization. The cost is $10 per game and you are asked to register by phone or in person by 12:00 to be guaranteed a game. Type of game, whether pairs, triples or fours will depend on numbers.
Our second social game is on every Friday and will include a soup and crusty bread lunch.
This is also only $10, including the home made soup. Details of times will follow soon. A popular event not to be missed.
SOME NEWS ABOUT OUR MEMBERS
The jungle drums have been very quick in letting members know that Lachie is returning to play for TEC this season. We are delighted to have him back and his presence on the green will be a great asset to our first team.
George appears to spend his time either playing bowls or sending funny memes. Here are a couple of his recent contributions.
“ Maurice, an 82 year old man, went to the doctor for a physical check-up. A few days later the doctor saw Maurice walking down the street with a gorgeous young girl on his arm.
Another couple of days later, the doctor, spoke to Maurice and said “You’re really doing great, aren’t you?”
Maurice replied “Just doing what you said Doc,” Get a hot mamma and be cheerful.”
The doctor said, “I didn’t say that.” I said, “ You’ve got a heart murmur, be careful.”
Hospital regulations require a wheelchair for patients being discharged. However, while working as a student nurse, I found one elderly gentleman already dressed and sitting on the bed with a suitcase at his feet. He insisted he didn’t need my help to leave the hospital.
After a chat about rules being rules, he reluctantly let me wheel him to an elevator. On the way down I asked him if his wife was meeting him.
“I don’t know,” he said. “She’s still upstairs in the bathroom changing out of her hospital gown.”
On Grand Final eve, Glen announced that the winner of this season’s Footy tipping was our own inimitable racing and footy tipster, John Boorn. Congratulations John !!! Thanks to Glen for organizing the competition. It certainly kept us occupied while in lockdown.
Michael sent me the following link. It is a very funny comment from “The Age” on Covid 19. Certainly worth a read, I’m sure you will chuckle !! Just Google “The A to Z of pandemic politics.” Thanks for the link, Michael.
